Conservation Volunteers St Mellons & Trowbridge

A fantastic turnout of local residents giving their time, and lots of energy, despite the rain to improve our Ancient Woodlands, Cath Cobb Woods. Thank you all. Paths are easier, safer to pass through & more light is now getting to the ground to help the native Wildflowers🌸🌼

We've been at Hendre Lake today planting trees and whips in the glorious sunshine. Thank you to all 18 volunteers for helping our local environment.

Who will be joining us to plant trees at our beautiful Hendre Lake? 🌱🌳 We will be planting some Black Poplar trees and more whips into a hedgerow on Saturday 21st March. This event is suitable for all ages and so the whole family is welcome to join us. St Mellons Cardiff

Happy World Wildlife Day! This Water Rail is found at Hendre Lake. A great shot by our member Michael Field, capturing the water rails patterns. A beautiful bird that is found in reed beds in freshwater wetlands, making Hendre lakes and its reens the perfect habitat for them.

Our friends Cardiff Rivers Group are back in St Mellons this Sunday morning for a clean up at Harrison Drive. This is one of our conservation sites. Everyone is welcome to join the litter pick to help look after this site for our local wildlife. St Mellons Cardiff

We went back to Cemaes Park to finish clearing away the slippery mud and thick build up of mud from the football court. Hopefully the water can now drain away better and reduce the amount of mud that builds up on the court. It's much safer now for the children to play.

Well, the rain didn't dampen our spirits today! 21 awesome volunteers turned up to help our community. We joined Park Ranger at Cath Cobb Woods for Hazel coppicing & vegetation management. We worked hard to improve the health of our Ancient Woodlands. Thank you all 💚

Our Winter Wildlife Walk was a great success with a beautiful sunrise, 28 species of birds seen and heard, and lots of educational and enjoyable moments throughout the morning including watching 7 Snipes at Hendre Lake. More photos can be found on our website & Facebook 🐦🦆
