Religion is actually materialist. Idealism comes from philosophy. All religion begins as communistic revolution - later, philosophers turn it into a series of empty rituals and superstitions, declaring the revolution over. But for thousands of years, the struggle went on.

@TherynDArnold They had nothing like a unified stance against the USSR, btw. Guys like Lukacs and Althusser largely supported it. Only late into the post-war era did they become associated with a non-revolutionary outlook; those who opposed the USSR usually still supported revolutionary Marxism

The system faded put as land owners had to compete for labor & a parallel commercial economy grew up around it. Start creating your parallel communist system and outcompete capitalism!
