He’s also the caretaker of the Goat, where his mindset is: “This is a park where people play golf. Who am I to tell people what they wear when they’re at a park?!” The Goat is packed with a diverse clientele, kids and dogs. The @youthoncourse facility has a junior caddie academy, free junior clinics, a 3-hole kid’s course (The Playground) and a wide range of skill levels, from tour pros to first-timers. It’s now recognized as a feeder program to @WGAESF. This fall, two caddies, Ada and Annabelle Lee (pictured), are off to the University of Washington on full Evans Scholarships. It’s a 4,500-yard, par 65. You hit every club in the bag, can’t overpower it, the small greens are immaculate and locals on weekends will be hard-pressed to spend more than $60 on golf, a hot dog and drink(s). Especially if you walk. There’s a fire pit, Friday skins, monthly medals and it’s home to the Wishbone Brawl. (Pros like @XSchauffele @GeoffOgilvyGolf and @fredcouplesgolf playing persimmons to raise money for juniors.) The Goat is good for so much more than just golf. A course like the Goat is good for community and society. Collars are optional. I know there are more Goat Hill Parks out there. Canal Shores, WP9, National Links Trust, Belmont, Golden Gate Park, Lions Muny…as we head into the 4th, let’s start a thread celebrating the accessible, affordable courses that put community as a priority…go!
