people talk about “training” all the time without understanding that police are literally trained to kill. There’s a widespread assumption police are trained to deescalate, as such, but they’re not, they’re trained to neutralize threats and minimize risk to themselves

I find these takes incredibly naive. Police have repeatedly rejected the “more money for more civilian control/accountability” trade. Reform has repeatedly failed because police cartel power blocks reform or makes it unenforceable. This is a much harder problem than you think.

Not because it will deter these lynchings, because it won’t. Not at all.
They’re doing it because they hope it stops you from demanding to defund and abolish the police, which would actually end these killings.

All I’ll say is that those who call for peace from protesters before they call for peace from the police aren’t invested in ending police murders. Ending police killings is not a matter of protesting properly, but a matter of ending the police state.

On January 9th, an Oklahoma meat processing plant called the police on a worker, a 26-year-old Sudan refugee, who shot and killed him.
The worker who took this video leading up to the incident said the worker was fired by a supervisor, but HR told them to finish their shift.
