Delighted that my article “Just Look at Me Now: Alma Thomas’s Intermediality” has been accepted and is due for publication in the Fall 2025 issue of the @ArchivesAmerArt Journal. My article explores dialogues between textiles and painting in Thomas’s work and self-fashioning

Beautiful colour and fluid geometries at the fantastic Alice Baber exhibition at Luxembourg + Co. I particularly love the way Baber creates an interaction between the watercolour pigment and soft grain of the Arches paper support to create a complex textural effect 🎨

Just came across Louis Danziger’s poster for the 1965 exhibition New York School: The First Generation at @LACMA. I love the way Danziger’s design succinctly literalises the connection between the materiality of paint and fabric of the New York urban environment.

Such a joy to see Helen Frankenthaler: Painting without Rules at @palazzostrozzi. What I found most exciting was the emphasis on Frankenthaler’s rich yet rarely exhibited late works of the 1980s and 1990s and her sculptures which were made in 1972 at Anthony Caro’s London Studio.

Thinking about Joan Mitchell's 1981 Lithographs "Brush". I find it interesting how Mitchell's choice of title and language of forms seems to play on differing use of the brush and possibilities of printed and painted gesture.

@pembroke1347 I remember going to the Pembroke open day back in 2014 and immediately feeling at home there. Deciding to apply to Pembroke was one of the best decisions I have ever made.

@LucyWhelan @marta_zboralska My PhD is on late modernist abstraction so I can give you lots of suggestions of who to read for writing about abstraction - very happy to talk more if that would be helpful

@corachalaby @marta_zboralska Thank you so much both! Of that list, I've only already read (and re-read) Briony Fer and Jo Applin so this is a lot to look forward to!

Doe anyone have reading recommendations on abstraction and drawing or more generally theories of drawing in modern and contemporary art? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
