Doing some electoral research, regional open-list PR with about 3-7 MPs elected seems to be my fav option so far for national elections.

I think the fact that an individual working on the UK's Debt Management is prohibited from working in the office closest to the UKs financial sector is crazy, and reduces the likelihood of hiring someone with a finance background

@BenRamanauskas I think this is part of the issue. It is possible to be talented, motivated and successful while also not believing that London is the be all and end all. The inability to imagine different outcomes is itself a weakness of the incumbent system.

In case you were not sufficiently worried about the state of the public finances. There is no requirement for an economics or finance backround for this role. It also can't be worked from London... 👍🇬🇧

I have reported to the police a series of incidents over the last week in Long Ditton and Thames Ditton, where Liberal Democrat campaign boards, and in some cases, nearby private property, have been deliberately vandalised. The graffiti includes a St George's cross and an 'R' and arrow, which suggests those responsible associate themselves with Reform UK. I am disappointed to report that this behaviour goes beyond simple mischief. It is criminal damage and appears designed to intimidate those taking part in our democratic process. This is not how we do politics in this country. There is no place for this in our community. Displaying a board of whatever political colour is part of our peaceful political process. People who decide to do this should not be intimidated into not doing so. Politics must be conducted through argument and persuasion, not vandalism or intimidation. I would ask any residents in the affected areas to check their CCTV, doorbell cameras, or dashcams for any footage that may help identify those responsible. Even small details could be important, and I urge anyone with information to come forward and assist the police. Despite these incidents, our candidates are out campaigning on the doorstep and those whose boards have been attacked have asked that they be kept up.

@RenaudFoucart All of these sound reasonable, but have you considered simply subsidising demand?

This can happen by: - Relying less on gas - invest on the grid - Killing NIMBY - More batteries, more EVs - Cutting carbon taxes (= switch costs from elec bill to taxes) - Cutting "environmental levies (= switch costs from elec bill to taxes) - Fairy magic (my favourite option)

Richard, that’s a shame especially since you haven’t read the full proposal yet. We have supporters from Reform to the Greens. And as a business man I’d have thought you’d support the future of British businesses who are DESPERATE for cheaper energy, lower taxes and space to innovate right next to Cambridge. Two of the best economists @PJTheEconomist and @timleunig are backing it for just this reason.

Liberal Democrats get things done. We don’t do division. We do potholes and police officers, church roofs and clean rivers. We focus on the local issues that matter to you. Vote Liberal Democrat on 7th May.
