Tonight's sword & sorcery movie is "Warlords of Atlantis" (1978). To be honest, I don't think I've ever heard of this movie before so I really don't think I've watched. I'm going into this completely blind but Wikipedia tells me that it was made by the same people to did "The Land That Time Forgot", "The People That Time Forgot", and "At the Earth's Core", which I have seen and liked, so I'm hopeful. With not much else to say, I'll explain that I'm doing this exercise of watching S&S movies is research for my stories. I'm still writing and publishing "Warriors of the Hollow Earth" which is a S&S story with dinosaurs, serpent men, and weird science. If you're interested, then the link to read it free is pinned to my profile.

@ttorroo There were probably dozens of each genus. How many species of each genus were coexisting is the question to be answered.

@OathenCelegost @HighEarthOrbit_ Yes. Especially with a post or two referencing orbital photos. I just found zooming in looking for a causeway somewhere on the Alaskan coast.

@BrianCoryDobbs @johnny_cakes22 @Mars_Revealer I don’t agree that it’s symmetrical. Have you not studied geology and how our understanding of it is applied to the surface structures we see on Mars before you assumed it’s a millions of years old pyramid?

Comment from YouTube... "There are only two explanations possible: 1 - this is not a hexagon. 2 - there was a very old civilization of creatures living on Mars at the time of the Dinosaurs." Discovered by @Mars_Revealer. Full video⬇️

@johnny_cakes22 @Mars_Revealer Don't get stuck on the dinosaurs. In other words, millions of years ago. NASA claims pareidolia for everything. Clearly, we're not just seeing things. This is a perfectly symmetrical 1-mile hexagon on Mars. Nature doesn't make those.

@FromTheDepths88 I have no doubt the movie will be a technical masterpiece but I also won’t be surprised if I leave the theater thinking it’s among the least enjoyable Greek mythology film I’ve ever seen.

Up From The Depths - 海の底から舞い上がる
As a fan of Nolan's I'll concede that he isn't the most visually stylistic director as far as visuals go. When it comes to editing though, that's another story, and that’s where I think his Odyssey will excel. The use of multiple scenes together to maximize a theme (cont)
Punished Venom Deat@Deathcheat6

I’d be down for this “because it looks cool” mentality if Nolan had more stylistic personality and it was in fact “cooler”. He’s not John Boorman or Frank Miller.

@Sketchy_raptor Personally I wouldn’t care if it’s explainable but I would expect some mythology. The human characters wouldn’t be the first to find the lost world. So either legends of the area or evidence of previous explorations should be included.

Follow up question: would people feel unsatisfied if the reason for dinosaurs appearing/being found in a story with a grounded tone wasn't actually explained? With the idea of it being an "unsolved/unsolvable mystery" being a deliberate plot feature?
Dr Matt Dempsey@Sketchy_raptor

It feels like the Jurassic Park premise of "dinosaurs resurrected via science" has kind of replaced other dino fiction premises in anything attempting a realistic, grounded tone. Does suspension of disbelief still allow for "Lost World" settings that aren't pulpy or fantastical?

@na81992647 @dr_mafoony The MG films had already been released in Japan a year before Megalon came to the states. Not sure Toho even realized that the Godzilla fanbase was growing by leaps and bounds in the US during the early 70’s due to Saturday evening and midnight movie syndication.

@dr_mafoony It's still funny how this film bombed in Japan yet made gangbusters in the US. ...do wonder if the Mechagodzilla films were able to be made due to it's international success though.
