Fanfic writing advice on here lately is like: fanfic writers need to read more books. But not so many that you don't update your WIPs regularly. And make sure you're not over 30 years old. And I should be able to tell you that your writing sucks in a public bookmark.

@A_Slut_For_Smut Me too. And someone can be a wonderful writer and a fic can still be not your thing. But the thing is there's so many fics out there, go find another one - why be mean to someone who is devoting their free time to writing a story?

@corrupt_touch It's strange cause I've come across several fics that just weren't my thing but never did I feel entitled to voice my dislike of them.. Actually the opposite.. I leave a kudos anyway (cause even if I didn't necessarily like it they still worked really hard on it) and then exited

You should be sorry because you’re wrong. Do you comment on art posted on here and say it’s bad? Walk up to an actor in a play and say they sucked? Maybe I should tell a kid at my daughter’s dance comp that their performance was terrible? No this would make me an asshole, right?

@BettyB_Writes @miminie_kkyu @obsessed_n_cute Yes, I think most people who write have a list of people they trust - some random ao3 account telling you that you suck isn't constructive and what are their credentials, anyway?

@corrupt_touch @miminie_kkyu The problem with writing advice is that relatively few folks are good enough with writing themselves to provide useful feedback. Like if @obsessed_n_cute tells me my fic sucks I’d take it seriously but it’s a short list of competent folks.

@ColleenWritesMN Sure, it's great to read. I'd love to read more. Unfortunately, if I want to write anything, I don't have much time to read between being a lawyer and a mother of 2.

@corrupt_touch As a CW teacher, I always tell my students to read more. As a fic writer, I would say read more yes but also write what you love. And you’re doing it for free: for the love of the game. Most fic writers have jobs/other obligations. They do what they can when they can

@A_Slut_For_Smut Yes. This is a weird concept to me because in the situations described above, most people would never say anything. They would know it's not right, and that doing so would make them a jerk. But there is an exception for people who write fic - they should be criticized?

@corrupt_touch It's almost like people don't understand the concept of just exiting out of it... It's so simple..
