The CorTrust team in Sioux Falls spent part of their day volunteering with Junior Achievement to help facilitate a JA Finance Park day. Local middle school students engaged with our volunteers as they explored scenarios to manage a budget. Students made decisions on housing, utilities, transportation, insurance, groceries, and more! It was a fun day of learning and helping build up students’ financial literacy.

First up: meet Kira Berens – Trust Officer from 9-5, running enthusiast at heart🏃‍♀️ What started as training for a 5k in 2017 has evolved into a lifestyle for Kira. Motivated by the first 5k, she went all in on her running journey, completing 10ks, half marathons, multiple-hour trail races, and even a 20k! This year, Kira has her eyes set on a 6-hour trail race and a 50k ultramarathon! 🌳👟 Kira loves the time spent outdoors with her running community, but what matters most is proving to herself that she’s capable of doing difficult things. Although running and banking might not seem connected, Kira explains how her hobby helps her profession, “Having a healthy way to deal with stress allows me to show up for our clients as the best version of myself. Training for long races has taught me important lessons about planning ahead and looking at the bigger picture. Since I work with the Trust department and the Wealth Management team, our focus is often on the future, growth, and the larger financial picture, so it's a useful skill to have!”
