Seems statistically unlikely that every customer service line I have ever called in my entire life has been experiencing higher than normal call volumes

@mattyglesias What we're doing here is apparently saving the average American household of four $11.17 per month

@jathyjathy If you thought that "don't go back to his ass" was only about the boyfriend, then you didn't listen to all of the lyrics carefully (especially at the end)

@KelseyTuoc @MatRopert I think it depends on how you define programming - if you're referring to manual coding then maybe, but if you're referring to the profession of software development, then I think that will remain, evolve, and expand

@MatRopert sorry, 'all graduate at top CS engineering schools'. I agree that this data point by itself wouldn't make me conclude programming is over, though I do think programming is basically over (from other data points, and the trajectory.)

a bunch of people reply pointing out that the C compiler that students write is much less sophisticated than this one, but I think the broader point is that we're now at "AI isn't impressive, any top graduate from a CS engineering school could do arguably comparable work".
Mathieu Ropert@MatRopert

Some CS engineering schools in France have you write a C compiler as part of your studies. Every graduate. To be put in perspective when the plagiarism machine announces it can make its own bad GCC in 100k+ LOCs for the amazing price of 20000 bucks at preferential rates.

@nicbarkeragain I think it's more like "software developers will architect systems and specify features to test"

Basically the entire thing is relying on this supposed class of "genius who enjoys reviewing code but doesn't enjoy writing it." I don't think those people exist.

"AI will generate all the code, and senior programmers will review it" is basically a mantra at this point. I'm fortunate enough to know a number of top tier programmers personally, and precisely 0% of them want to spend their time reviewing AI generated code (myself included)
