Baelor is indeed ASOIAF's Aragorn. Our loss is that Tolkien saw nobility as something ultimately vindicated and cherished, whereas George is too much of a cynical bitch not to treat it as a death sentence. 🙄😭

@thorlokid Everyone knows everyone here, it's true. Sam and Bertie have been around long enough to know what to do to survive the press without dying in the process.
Would have been lovely to see them together, but Ings needed someone to bounce off, and Bertie wasn't going to play nanny😉

ok i know the gag is british entertainment industry is just the same people recycled and remixed over and over BUT THEY WERE IN THE SAME PLAY 20 YEARS AGO?? every day the crime of not pairing them for at least some of the press tour worsens

They culled some dialogue from Baelor's death scene. But the note they gave Bertie for when he touches the back of his head was something like "clouds passing over his eyes." Ira then said, "Give Bertie Carvel a note like that and he fucking delivers."

@baelorbreaksme For me, they fumbled there. Just like taking the tourney lances line out, most people think that it's just about the trial, but it's also a way in which Baelor is remembered two books later. Little complains about a mostly perfect adaptation. Not asking for Ira's head.

@cosimadda They wanted to make it seem that Dunk was a loser and that he was wasting people's time, so that it delivered maximum audience impact when Baelor showed up. Their concept was that the audience wanted a show... So it was a bit soap operaish or gladiatorial is what I'd call it.

@baelorbreaksme All the more depressing (Ira has already gone on record complaining about it) that they left out Dunk's iconic walk up to the trial. One of the most moving moments in the novella.
