Ministry of Textiles, in association with the Arun Jaitley National Institute of Financial Management (AJNIFM), organised a two-day Workshop for Finance Officers on 23–24 May 2026. Conducted by the O/o CCA under the chairmanship of the Special Secretary & Financial Advisor, the workshop brought together 56 officers from various organisations and divisions under the Ministry of Textiles. The workshop focused on financial management, expenditure planning, procurement, internal audit, and budgetary discipline. Participants shared operational experiences, best practices, and suggestions for strengthening financial governance and internal controls. @PIBTextiles

Vrunda Manohar Desai, IRS, Textile Commissioner, GoI, Mumbai, graced the Graduation Showcase “Genesis 2026” organised by National Institute of Fashion Technology on 22 May 2026 in Mumbai as the Chief Guest, celebrating the creativity, innovation, and industry readiness of graduating students across design, technology, and management disciplines. 👏 The programme commenced with the ceremonial inauguration and welcome address by Prof. Dr. Ajit Kumar Khare. The Textile Commissioner, along with industry leaders and experts, appreciated the students’ installations, display works, and fashion presentations. Addressing the students, she encouraged the young graduates to emerge as future leaders of India’s textile and fashion ecosystem through innovation, sustainability, and responsible use of Artificial Intelligence. She highlighted the immense potential of India’s textile sector and emphasized the importance of preserving India’s rich textile heritage while building globally recognised Indian brands. She also underlined the growing role of sustainability, circularity, technical textiles, and AI-driven transformation in shaping the future of the industry. ✨ National Seminar on New Age Fibres 🇮🇳 Smt. Vrunda Manohar Desai, IRS, Textile Commissioner, GoI, Mumbai, moderated the session on “Foundational Framework: Building the New Age Fibre Blueprint” at the National Seminar on New Age Fibres, highlighting India’s vision for sustainable, diversified, and future-ready textiles under the National Fibre Mission today in New Delhi. The seminar was inaugurated by Hon’ble Minister of Textiles Shri Giriraj Singh. Hon’ble Minister of State for Textiles Shri Pabitra Margherita, Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, Smt. Neelam Shami Rao, Ms. Padmini Singla, Joint Secretary (Fibre), Ms. Amrit Raj, Jute Commissioner, and Smt. Vrunda Manohar Desai, Textile Commissioner, GoI, Mumbai, along with senior officers from MoT, State Governments, experts, researchers, industry captains, and entrepreneurs were also present. Three task forces, constituted under the Chairmanship of Dr. Sarveshwar N. Bhure, Joint Textile Commissioner, presented their findings with coordinated recommendations for strengthening the ecosystem of New Age Natural Fibres. One member from each task force represented a Textile Research Association and delivered presentations on the Comprehensive Assessment Report prepared on New Age Natural Fibres. The session featured insights from Dr. M.S. Parmar, Director General, Northern India Textile Research Association (NITRA), Dr. A.K. Sharma, Director, Indian Jute Industries Research Association (IJIRA), and Dr. Prakash Vasudevan, Director, South India Textile Research Association (SITRA), focusing on the development of New Age Fibres such as Flax, Milkweed, Hemp, Bamboo, Ramie, Sisal, Banana, Pineapple, and Kapok. Discussions during the seminar emphasised the importance of technology adoption, processing infrastructure, skill development, certification support, and industry collaboration to build a globally competitive ecosystem for bio-based and sustainable fibres. The booklet prepared by the Office of the Textile Commissioner, Mumbai, showcases the importance, applications, and future potential of New Age Natural Fibres such as Milkweed, Flax, Hemp, Bamboo, Ramie, Sisal, Banana, Pineapple Leaf Fibre (PALF), Kapok, and Nettle driving innovation in the textile sector. The Comprehensive Assessment Report presents detailed assessments covering production and availability, agronomy and cultivation practices, fibre extraction and processing technologies, value addition, market opportunities, institutional frameworks, policy support, challenges, and future growth potential of New Age Natural Fibres.
