He did something similar with Scorpion. He had 2 albums left on his deal and convinced UMG to accept Scorpion as 2 albums since it was a double album and they agreed. Got them to agree to IYRTITL counting as an album as well.

Best guess is that he actually owed UMG 3 more albums and decided to make 3 to fulfill his contractual obligations. On like 2 songs on Iceman, he makes reference of his label letting him go after dropping these albums.

Iceman doesn't hit me as an album that's making any legit attempts at scoring hits. It's slappers on there for sure but it's clearly more concerned with Drake getting shit off his chest than anything else.

If there's anything I feel Drake wants to define his legacy, it's that he never settled and never cheated the game of his presence. Always worked his ass off to give people something new to love and enjoy. You gotta respect it. It's been 20 years of this already.

These 3 new Drake albums, along with episode 4 of Iceman, are a gift to his fans and the people that rock with him. Can't even imagine the work ethic it required to pull everything off and still deliver on time. I bet he has a tour he'll be announcing soon as well.

Iceman, however successful it ends up being, will be a success for Drake and Drake alone, not the entire landscape of rap. That's not Drake's responsibility anymore. King Kendrick can bear that burden moving forward. It's his era after all.
