In 1871 it became the first branch in the Cooper's grocery chain. The firm demolished Thomson's warehouse and built a modern block incorporating office space above, home for many years to a prominent Aer Lingus branch. That too has been demolished, replaced by a hotel.

The building that put the "Greek" into Alexander "Greek" Thomson. His first executed Grecian design, and his first important urban building, it was designed and built for J & WA Blair hat manufacturers in 1853. 📷 Glasgow City Archives #glasgow

Had a good search for this location and particularly the #shoap. But drawn a blank I'm afraid. Peat Road Bus from Midland Street heading south in #Glasgow c.1960. But where? The pub name is the key. Canny read it....

An aerial view of Priesthill looking west, probably from the early 60s. Glenmuir Dr curves past the water tower on the left, with Priesthill Rd finishing at the bus terminus lower right. 📷 Newsquest #Glasgow

@WYWH75 @apalmer95 The company was started in 1807 by Lochaber native Samuel McCalman (Dow being an anglicised form of the surname). Originally a wine merchant & whisky bonder, the company had several pubs across the city by 1899.

This week's Friday pub is an easy one, because I'm in it the noo 😂 The Granary at Shawlands Cross opened here in 1983 on the site of Samuel Dow's which predated the building of the 1890s Crossmyloof Mansions tenement. #Glasgow
