The Orient Express debuted in the WWF in 1990 managed by Mr. Fuji. The team was presented as a dangerous tag team from Japan. Pat Tanaka was born in Hawaii. Mr. Fuji was born in Honolulu. ​ When Akio Sato returned to Japan late that year, he was replaced by Canadian wrestler Paul Diamond, who was given a red mask and the name Kato. The roster change was never acknowledged on screen. ​ The Tanaka and Diamond version of the team is the one most fans remember. Their match against The Rockers at the 1991 Royal Rumble remains one of the more well-regarded tag matches of that era. The team never captured the WWF Tag Team Championship. ​ After the WWF run, Diamond was repackaged as Max Moon.
