Apple misses iPhone revenue estimates (iPhone revenue: $56.99 billion vs $57.21 billion expected) - not good in a quarter where there was lots of channel filling ahead of likely price hikes. Research house Omdia (today) noted: "Vendor-led front-loading - as Samsung, Apple, and others accelerated sell-in ahead of expected inflation in memory and component costs" "Vendors accelerated sell-in ahead of further anticipated cost increases, supporting headline shipment growth but creating an inventory overhang. Channel partners also built excess stock to hedge against rising end-prices, amplifying the pull-forward effect." "Front-loading activity across both vendors and the channel lifted shipments in the near term, but this has created an inventory overhang that will weigh on subsequent quarters as demand normalizes,” said Omdia Research Manager Le Xuan Chiew.

Chatted with a few longtime $ASML suppliers recently... They’re getting squeezed pretty hard. These new senior outsiders in leadership have zero patience for the old “long-term partner” warmth the veterans used to show. This matches the sentiment among emoloyees after the big January announced cuts of ~1,700 jobs. Strong arm-length vibes. Still a mess, BTW. But let’s be real: ASML has a near-monopoly on EUV with strong top-line growth and healthy margins. Why penny-pinch suppliers right now? Give partners more breathing room and they’ll have bigger innovation budgets to come up with even better tech. Feels like the new leaders just want to prove their impact by boosting the bottom line a couple points. Doesn’t make long-term sense. Real optimization should wait until top-line growth actually slows down, not while the money is still rolling in.. The partnership culture that built ASML is turning into pure short-term transactional mode fast.
