The OHL draft returns as an in-person event tonight in Kingston. The Oshawa Generals select 1st overall and are expected to take Kane Cloutier of the Vaughan Kings. Kane is the son of former NHL goalie Dan Cloutier.

@mattewhy You maybe onto something. Older guys take off to NCAA and you can find a late bloomer kid that could still play 2 or 3 years without the flight risk to take off. Some kids just want to get to the OHL and play. Not sure how many teams would want an older player for just 2 years.

I do wonder with the new era of the OHL and losing players if the U18 draft can become more important in terms of getting older players to contribute immediately with the league getting younger. It’s never really played that way before but I am curious of that changes now.

@bry977 @ryanpmcarthur So 2 years later, they can enter the u16 again? That makes no sense. Why wouldn't they have to go into the u18.

@crads12 @ryanpmcarthur Low would have been dropped from that teams protected list. Another team would have recently asked the league to add him to the eligible draft list.

Went through the 2026 OHL Draft Guide and found some eligible players NOT from the 2010 age group I really liked at one point or another. See below. #OHLDraft #2026OHLDraft

@ryanpmcarthur Was wondering why they would be on there. Couple others were also drafted or were eligible. I have a 2009 and figuring out the rules is difficult. Last year with so many 07 or 08's that got picked in the u16 was crazy. Nevermind all the Americans

@crads12 Most of them were drafted. They’re all listed as eligible for 2026, so maybe the team who drafted them renounced their rights on their protected list?
