@crazy_vol_fan Can't disagree. I believe a change needs to be made, but I also believe Elander did decent in 8 months taking Tennessee to the tournament.

If Tony Vitello was the head coach, fans would chalk this up to a bad year and a miss in the portal. As would I. Point being, much like last season, a coaches hands are tied at a certain point. You are what you are. This Regional has perfectly summed up the 2026 season.

@crazy_vol_fan Frank Anderson was there last year when Krenzel was doing the same shit he did this year. Not going to downplay the job Anderson did for nearly a decade, but if your arms aren't capable of big boy baseball, then they're just not.

@crazy_vol_fan @GBO____3 I agree we were inconsistent and will need to and most likely make a pitching coach change. However I think Elander made good adjustments and did an admirable job late szn to get this team to the post szn. Bats died at the worst possible time.

@JRobinette10 @lucasw71 @GBO____3 I’m not labeling Elander yet. He inherited a hard situation. Took over late, thought he would have Frank then had to replace him late. I do think he needs to soul search and consider some of his staff though. Team was INCREDIBLY inconsistent this season.

But fans are too quick to put a label on an HC in his first yr with brand new roster reductions that directly affect the pitching staff the most. Especially considering the lateness of the staff change.

@JRobinette10 @lucasw71 @GBO____3 I was aware of the roster reduction, and my comment wasn’t a reflection on Frank somehow making these guys perform to a higher take talent level. I just meant I feel like between him and TV they had a better feel for who to pitch in different situations

Tennessee wastes a leadoff double from Garrett Wright in the seventh. Blake Grimmer struck out, Henry Ford popped up to second and Trent Grindlinger popped up to first in foul territory. VCU leads 5-3 at the seventh-inning stretch.

Brady Frederick allows a single and a pair of walks to load the bases in the bottom of the fifth. VCU third baseman Nate Kirkpatrick cashes in with a two-run double into the left-field corner. Tennessee trails 5-2.

I suspect Tony probably regrets his decision to go coach that atrocious Giants team right now but let’s be honest here… Tony built this Tennessee roster and would’ve had a very similar season to what Elander has done.
