Donald Trump has long chafed at demands that he preserve Presidential records. During his first term, he had a habit of tearing documents into tiny pieces after he was finished with them, despite two chiefs of staff and the White House counsel urging him to stop. Trump’s apparent frustrations with government demands for his records continued after he was charged with improper retention of classified documents. While those charges were dropped, his aggravation at record preservation has persisted. Now a post-Watergate law that makes Presidential records government property has been deemed unconstitutional by the Justice Department. In an opinion last month, after a review request from the Trump Administration, the Office of Legal Counsel decided that “Congress cannot preserve presidential records merely for the sake of posterity” and that, in addition, the law infringes on “the constitutional independence and autonomy of the Executive.” Therefore, the opinion concluded, “the President need not further comply with its dictates.” Read more about whether Trump will be able to destroy his records from office: newyorkermag.visitlink.me/vvPzUA

Chronic stress in parents can biologically affect children through stress hormones, epigenetic changes, and altered brain development.  Long-term exposure to cortisol may influence a child’s emotional regulation, anxiety levels, immune function, and stress response, beginning even before birth.  Environment and caregiving also play major roles.  Source: Harvard University

If Odysseus hadn’t angered Poseidon, his journey home to Ithaca would likely have taken only about a week. The distance between Troy and Ithaca is roughly 560 nautical miles, with one nautical mile equal to about 1.15 miles or 1.85 kilometers. Ancient ships are estimated to have traveled at around 4 to 6 knots, averaging close to 5 knots, which would allow them to cover approximately 100 nautical miles per day. At that pace, a direct voyage without setbacks would take around six days, or roughly a week. By comparison, a modern flight along a similar route would take about 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on the exact path.
