So I’m at meeting house (essentially the local pub) at bar with my comrade playing chess when a fat plate of nachos lands a few stools down. I tell my friend to tell whoever ordered those nachos to pass them down. I don’t know who it is. They pass them down. This is my life.

Department of Government Efficiency
Last week, Treasury went live with its first automated payment verification system. In total, $334 million in improper payment requests were identified and rejected due to: -Missing budget codes -Invalid budget codes (i.e. the payment was not linked to the budget) -Budget codes with no authorization (i.e. the budget had already been fully spent)
Department of Government Efficiency@DOGE

The Treasury Access Symbol (TAS) is an identification code linking a Treasury payment to a budget line item (standard financial process). In the Federal Government, the TAS field was optional for ~$4.7 Trillion in payments and was often left blank, making traceability almost impossible. As of Saturday, this is now a required field, increasing insight into where money is actually going. Thanks to @USTreasury for the great work. tfx.treasury.gov/taxonomy/term/…

A note about power laws or the 80/20 Rule. Few things actually matter, and quality is connected to those inputs.

In this change, I’m aiming for “smooth”. How can I go from input to output in the smoothest way possible. The nice thing is that I have a roadmap. A company has built this already. We just need to adopt the best practices and make the change.

I’m in the process of switching up a critical system for my business. A complicated endeavor - but I believe worthwhile. As a main goal is to streamline and standardize the systems we use everyday in order to improve the customer experience and reduce administrative overhead.

Scale isn’t about doing more. It’s about removing everything that isn’t worth doing. Then doing as much as you can of what’s left.

To many times I attempt to jump from the worker to the owner, and probably don’t spend enough time in the manager role.

This is not a new idea, but one I am remind ring myself about. If you’re an entrepreneur, try and recognize your position, in any given circumstance. Are you the manager, the owner or the worker?

The manager brings value by understanding the work, and helps steer the worker towards what should be worked on. This should not be someone without direct experience of the actual work, but someone who continually checks in on the work being done. To ensure it’s the “right” work.
