#215children exploration with grade 7 students. Student words that describe the residential school experience. Important conversations to keep having as Canadians.

Students connected with an expert for their #GeniusHour projects. Students have connected with these experts this month: a Royal Winnipeg Ballet ballerina, professional bike racers, chefs, bakers, photographers, artists, published authors, and a cosmetologist. #passionproject

A priceless #geniushour reflection from a student. Always fun to see an 'aha moment' happen in real time. "I just blew my own mind wow." #mmslah

@KristyLVance I took their results from a Google Form and put it into a 'word cloud'. I use them in class all the time to display a set of class responses in a way that encourages discussion. Word Clouds, Tagul, and Menti (online, live discussions) are all good programs and are easy to use.

Last week in ELA, grade 8s were asked to set some goals for helping out their friends (left), helping their family out at home (top right), and setting some self care goals (bottom right). Great work! #mmslah

Editing #persuasive writing from #teenink with a partner. Figuring out what good writing looks like, and what poor writing looks like too! Developing a critical eye for persuasive writing/editing. #ela

8s playing board games with some of our 5s on a fun Friday afternoon. Teaching 8s the importance of helping others. "Life's most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?" #character

Assessing the credibility of websites. Helping students develop a critical 'gut feeling' when picking websites for research projects. Research is only helpful if it is accurate! #research

2 students of mine entered a national writing contest last year. The anthologies arrived today. They are now officially published authors! Very proud! #wordsfromtheheart

Using #screencastify (chrome extension) to record instructions for #dollarstreet a great website that uses pictures to show how people on earth are different. Recording instructions eliminates the need for me to repeat the instructions!

A1: #worldgeochat is one of the biggest resources for me. But when it comes to resources for my students, I have to use Google Earth, CIA World Factbook, and Dollar Street.

@mrsashornreads Yes, I encourage my students to use this as a quick assessment of their vocabulary choices in any piece of writing they do. Since it is visual, it is very easy to quickly identify the most commonly used (or overused) words in their writing.

@creimerhsd Is this a program you use when writing? Off topic, just noticed your last name. My maiden name is Riemer. Ha!

Using #wordart to visually analyze vocabulary choices. The larger the word, the more it has been overused. Fast and simple way to edit for word choice. I wonder which word I overused in this piece of writing? #wordchoice
