@BruceWayne9851 This is basically a redux of AVENGERS #18, when Strange, Clea, + Wanda had to build a circuit w Sif + Quentin in order to track smth moving space at high speed. It’s reasonable and established that she would need a little finesse/assistance to pull smth like this off.

Ryan North shows no grasp of Wanda's comics. First, “With all the powers of the Sorcerer Supreme” makes no sense because she rebuked the Vishanti. Second, “It isn't possible and is impossible to aim it” literally contradicts her main ability, and belief of “anything is possible”.

fans complain about Pietro being sidelined but only actually care about him as a "mutant"/Magneto's son and haven't read anything from the last decade. Wanda will probably always outshine him to some degree, but many writers, esp SW authors, have taken the time to build him up

A) multiple comics post-retcon have actually expanded on Pietro's powers parallel to Wanda's evolution + included him in the same lore/mythology + cosmic significance B) that's a weird way to describe a Jewish character, and not accurate to any version of Billy-as-demiurge
Lunwi@lunwi75

You would think the power levels of the Flash & Quicksilver would be lowkey reversed. The former has a primarily street level rogues gallery while the other is the son of an omega level mutant, the twin of the most powerful sorceress, & uncle to the reincarnation of God.

@The_big_rodent Romani depictions in Marvel are more often rooted in a certain caricatures + archetypes, but there is a greater awareness of Romani history + oppression and, I think, more humanity granted to these characters. Depictions in DC are less stereotypical but also far less sensitive.

@crh_perseph Though there are steps that can be made, I do see Marvel genuinely putting in much more effort at making Romani characters stand out from tired stereotypes that can be pigeonholed on them. DC, I can't really say the same thing.

@MinuteNerdNews This point has been brought up many times to argue that it was better to whitewash Wanda because of her problematic aspects. Maybe that wasn’t your intention, but I struggle to see the point in bringing this up as a response to the original post abt poor casting.

@crh_perseph Pointing out that this conversation should be had with nuance (like you’re doing rn) from an educated perspective (like you’re doing rn) is not an argument, not bad faith and definitely not a distraction.

Note also that in this continuity, Wanda’s magical lineage is not unique to her family or culture. They’re not witches bc they’re Roma, but being Roma informs their circumstances. It’s abt social+historical context, which to me is a more valuable form of representation.

“Witchcraft” is not Romani culture, and our actual traditions + spirituality are semi closed and don’t need to be shared in this type of media— but in a world where magic literally exists, Wanda‘s family history is plausible, and could shed light on a misunderstood topic.

Easy. There’s a history of Roma families, practicing “mystical” trades, such as fortune telling + folk healing as a former survival work. These practices were sought after and appropriate by the majority while Roma practitioners were vilified + criminalized. 1/3

I'm begging ppl who think or say that Wanda can he changed into genuine representation to explain to me which authentic romani cultural or spiritual practice maps onto literally any of her powers

material to create nuanced, sensitive depictions w/out sacrificing their magic OR their heritage. Instead, CBMs have established a pattern in which Roma identity+history are treated as disposable, and fans excuse it ways they wouldn’t other forms of whitewashing.

this argument is also made worse because the mcu leans into anti roma stereotypes when it comes to wendy (her halloween costume being called a “fortune teller” in wv, her actively trying to steal kids, etc)
Discussin’ Film@ThatComicFan3

Its really funny that white people think that the solution to minority being stereotypical or having caricatures in their writing is to just turn them white as opposed to actually putting in work to make them authentic representation.

@FeiticeiraNews This is an edit from my blog-- I don't care if anyone reposts it, but out of respect for Dauterman I don't think it should be presented as his original artwork, as the background + coloring have been altered. tumblr.com/scarlet--wicca…

@CH0PPENHEIMER Interesting, I've never seen it that way. Is it the green? There are obv elements of Wanda but I always assumed that overall look was meant to be aligned w/ the greco/roman aesthetics of Eidolon + the temple they visit, like how Teddy was pure space prince to complement Goebig

@Doormanamu It's actually not. This character IS very racist and offensive, but it's a different modality of racism that is kind of unique to Romani oppression. Pop culture erases+trivializes our existence through fantasy tropes. "Gypsy" embodies that more than almost any Marvel/DC character
