OTD in 1901 #readingfc drew 1-1 with Spurs in the FA Cup quarter-final at Elm Park, but were robbed of a win when Sandy Tait punched the ball off the line near the end. Spurs went on to win the Cup, and ironically Tait helped build the new stand at Elm Park 25 years later.

On this day in 2015, Reading reached just their second FA Cup semi-final after beating Bradford 3-0 in a replay at the Mad Stad, thanks to goals from Hal Robson-Kanu, Garath McCleary and Jamie Mackie #readingfc

A #readingfc v #pafc programme from a match that lives long in the memory, 0-3 down on 65 minutes but ended up winning 4-3 (Horrix, Senior 2 and 'Mad Max' Bremner), a memorable season as well! Tough one today but 🤞 @TheTilehurstEnd @STARReading @cribsie

Reading v Plymouth at Elm Park just before Christmas 1985 was an amazing game – the one when came back from 0-3 down to win 4-3. Quite a few people left before the comeback started, which is understandable, but you never know. They couldn't believe what they'd missed! #readingfc

One of #readingfc's best ever players Alf Messer was born on this day in 1900. Alf was a dominant centre-half who helped us to to our first Football League promotion in 1926 and the FA Cup semi-final a year later.

Wishing a very Happy Birthday to Reading's all-time top appearance maker Martin Hicks, who was born on this day in 1957. He played 603 times for us between 1978 and 1991, and is the only man to captain the club to a Wembley win #readingfc

Jimmy Kebe and Yakou Meite both scored after nine seconds for #readingfc. But 100 years ago today on 27 Feb 1926, Teddy Braithwaite scored soon after the kick-off at Plymouth, with one report stating it was after five seconds. No way of verifying, but maybe our fastest goal ever.

Hard to believe now, but 20 years ago there were serious proposals to increase the Mad Stad's capacity to 38,000. At the time we had 20,000 season ticket holders, so it seemed feasible. But staying in the Prem was key. A huge missed opportunity for #readingfc

On the this day in 1986 during #readingfc's 3-2 win at Swansea 3-2 in Division 3, winger Andy Rogers had to be resuscitated by physio Glenn Hunter after he swallowed his tongue when hitting his head on the icy pitch. Happily, he made a full recovery.

On this day in 1927, Elm Park hosted its record attendance. 33,042 crammed into the ground to see #readingfc beat Brentford 1-0 in the 5th Round of the FA Cup, thanks to a goal from Frank Richardson. The scenes on Broad Street that day, plus the Reading XI that played.

Remembering the great #readingfc forward Jimmy Wheeler, who sadly passed away on this day in 2020 at the age of 86. Jimmy played 453 games in all competitions for the club between 1952 and 1966, scoring 170 goals.

10 years ago today we lost Ronnie Blackman at the age of 90. He scored a club record 39 league goals in 1951-52, which still stands. His total of 158 in the league is also a club best; only Senior has more in all comps. Ronnie in the 'Reading Football Club Post' 1990 #readingfc

Wishing a very Happy Birthday to former #readingfc striker Mike Kearney, who was born on this day in 1953. Mike was part of the Fourth Division title winning team in 1978-79, and is second from the right in the back row here.

Martin Hicks proudly lifting the Simod Cup on the cover of this #readingfc v #bwfc programme from September 1998 (which incidentally we never defended due to the prior season's relegation), this was a 1-1 draw with Billy Whitehurst notching @TheTilehurstEnd @cribsie @STARReading
