@crofhalcon @Omojuwa The thing is most of them haven't been in that situation to understand that 2v1 is not as straight forward as it seems.

I watched Alexander Sørloth dilly dally over a decision that should have been intuitive. I don’t know if he choked, fancied personal glory, or simply didn’t like the idea of putting it on a plate for Erling Haaland. Had he done the easiest thing available to him in that moment, Norway would most likely have gone 2-0 up. He has probably denied his country an unprecedented World Cup semi-final. Sørloth will never forget that moment till he dies. Haaland will never forget it. Every Norwegian who watched it, at the stadium or on a screen, will never forget it. That is how not to play for your team. Because it felt like in that moment, he was playing against his own team.

🚨 Erling Haaland refuses to throw Sørloth under the bus after Norway's defeat to England. 🇳🇴 🗣️ Erling Haaland: Alexander Sørloth is a great player and, more importantly, a very good friend of mine. Football is a game of decisions, and sometimes you make the right one, sometimes you don't. People watching from home have time to slow everything down and analyse every angle, but on the pitch you have a split second to make a decision. That's football. I'll never blame him for that moment because we've all been in those situations. Every player has made a decision they wish they could take back. I'm proud of what we've achieved as a team. Reaching the World Cup quarter-finals was something very few people believed we could do before the tournament started. We gave our country something to be proud of. We fought for every badge, every shirt and every supporter who believed in us. Losing to England wasn't because of one pass or one missed opportunity. We created chances throughout the game. We had moments where we could have scored, and they had moments where they punished us. That's football. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, but you never point fingers at one teammate. We win together, and we lose together. I'll always stand by Alexander, just as I know he'd stand by me. That's what being teammates is all about. We leave this tournament disappointed, but also proud. This is only the beginning for Norway, and we'll come back stronger.

This is why non-playing fans that don’t even understand the game are the worst part about sports. That pass was very difficult. There’s a reason every top player complimented Jon Stones positioning. When you never play the game, you don’t understand that Stones can easily read that pass. Sorloth was not going to fake it and push it forward into space to shoot with his right foot. He’s not quick enough. He would either have to play a more risky creative pass to Haaland to avoid being read easily, or do what he did. He just didn’t execute it well . The fact people are harping on him and trying to make him out to be the scapegoat is insane. It’s just psychopathic fans with no idea what they’re talking about.

Anyone who has ever played or watched ball beyond World Cup games knows that this pass was never on for a left footer, or at least had a pretty low chance of success. Sørloth is getting pelters online but Stones got his positioning absolutely perfect.

Sørloth is being piled on because the option he chose didn't play. Stones didn't buy it one bit. People should realize Stones very well knew a pass was most likely the best play. Trust me he had an eye on that interception. What people don't see, which for me is the elite defensive play there, is Stones also positioning in a way that frustrates a fake by Sørloth. I have intercepted many 2 on 1 passes by just discerning the right moment the pass will be played and sticking out a leg to foil it. Thing is when I tried it and the attacker read it and faked, getting that change of pace needed to catch up is most likely impossible Lol.

@crofhalcon @6uff_ Check the video. I mean Rice tracking back. Stones already in an instant. Trust me, before Rice could intervene. Sorloth should be able to deliver the pass. If Stones intercepts, then fine, no leash on him. But now he’s been dragged for selfishness.

@samueldeyforyou @rambo_cfc @6uff_ If the pass made it to Haaland cos it was released early, best believe, Stones is catching up with him. He could still have tried a shot, but one which Stones will most likely block.

@crofhalcon @rambo_cfc @6uff_ half brainer's will still argue, cus that was an excellent shadow marking. If he had released the pass to early, haaland would've been boxed in ..and as a forward, he isn't technical enough to drop it at the right time for a tap in

I agree with you on the fact that he didn't attempt. People only applaud the option he took if it works. For it to work, Stones has to attempt an interception with a movement forward just like Paredes did. Now if Marmoush's intention was to fake that pass, Paredes was already sold lmao and there's no catching Marmoush there, at least not by Paredes. Sørloth would have been through on goal, one on one and could still pass to Haaland if he so wished. That's top football IQ. But he failed because Stones wasn't fooled one bit. Just watch Stones' movement very carefully Lol.

This is even different and more difficult because another Argentina player was with. Sorloth literally has 3 different chances to make a simple pass. If it was intercepted, no one would be complaining here. The fact that he didn't attempt to make the pass like this Egyptian guy is why people are mad at him. There's no excuse for his greediness.
