All of the people who spoke to us are trying to get their new Ukrainian friends that they’ve met on Facebook to Wales through the Homes for Ukraine scheme, which they say is ‘embarrassing’ with ‘barriers at every turn’ and ‘too much red tape’

Many people living in Wales have approached WalesOnline this week to share their great difficulties in getting through what they have described as a painstakingly slow sponsorship visa application process to welcome Ukrainian refugees into their homes 🧵

The EU offers Ukrainian refugees leave to live/work for 3yrs but the UK has been less open. Homes for Ukraine allows UK families to sponsor refugees but only 1 in 10 visas apps have been granted so far. I've followed one family who escaped Kharkiv and now feel stuck in limbo
