This sums up the lie of this govt. This govt is a fraud - always has been - because it was built on the lie that Brexit would not be bad for the British economy. Which clearly it is. As a result, every claim is made to try and back up that lie. So they have to lie - continually.

I have witnessed this club go from doubters to believers, and from believers to champions. It took hard work and I always did everything I could to help the club get there. Nothing makes me prouder than that. Us crumbling to yet another defeat this season was very painful and not what our fans deserve. I want to see Liverpool go back to being the heavy metal attacking team that opponents fear and back to being a team that wins trophies. That is the football I know how to play and that is the identity that needs to be recovered and kept for good. It cannot be negotiable and everyone that joins this club should adapt to it. Winning some games here and there is not what Liverpool should be about. All teams win games. Liverpool will always be a club that means a great deal to me and to my family. I want to see it succeed for long after I have moved on. As I’ve always said, qualifying to next season’s Champions League is the bare minimum and I will do everything I can to make that happen.

As a former Red, and having watched too many Liverpool masterclasses at Villa Park ( and played in a couple), that could be the worst Liverpool performance in B6 I've seen. And I'd include the 7-2 in that. No idea what the team is trying to do and that's a very, very rare thing to say about any Liverpool team.

They should just announce mutual consent departure at the end of the season this week and let it all end amicably next Sunday. We'd probably be more likely to win if that burden isn't hanging over us.

I think you can simultaneously be generally pro patience with managers but also find it astounding that Liverpool might not consider appointing Xabi Alonso - who seems to want the job - in favour of risking this dirge continuing next season under Arne Slot.

Arne Slot had credit in the bank at the start of this torrid run (well over half a year ago btw) and rightly so after last season. But that has gone bust now. He has shown absolutely nothing in that period to show he is the man to lead this team forward.

I’m not having a pop but I stopped listening to anything Slot had to say months ago. Whether we were struggling or not, I listened to 95% of Klopp’s press conferences. You always ended up feeling more positive afterwards.

@davidyelland I think the accountants might well be....it's not always in a high-profile individual's interest for wealth estimates to be at the higher end (even if it makes the personality - in their own eyes - look good in the short-term). HMRC does take notice.

This 'billionaire' line about David Beckham may or may not be strictly accurate but, believe me, the PR game between Sunday Times' Rich List folk and the Beckham company in order to agree what could be said will have been intense. Both sides will be happy - David sells papers, being 'a billionaire' is a great moment for him. The accountants MIGHT be raising the odd eyebrow. In the US Brooklyn's father In law, far richer, will have a wry smile....
