@tunguz "Same specs" I mean if your understanding of computers barely goes past seeing a storage and RAM figure yes lol Then the GPU, NPU, memory bandwidth, it's quite difference. This is a good low end PC for some people, I'm sure, but not really comparable.

I mean, I love the new Mac Mini as much as the next guy, but you do know that today you can get those same kinds of specs in a PC for $159?

@crtvcreature @pappapez @teej_dv It's funny, because I think the pictures/dialogs actually made it shorter. I think a condensed version is a cool idea. It would teach less but be a good reference.

What's one technical/software related book you would recommend for Kindle reading? I've got a newborn at home now (again, number 3!) and am looking for some cool programming stuff to read with one hand at midnight to 3AM lol (so it can't require typing along)

@ericnormand @pappapez @teej_dv I think the best technical books are the ones where you try to take notes but you can’t actually make it any briefer than the author already did. Jon Bodners book “Learning Go” is a great example of this!

@ericnormand @pappapez @teej_dv I think it’s a really really good book so please don’t take this the wrong way, but I think the conversations between the fictional engineers could be removed and some repetition. If it was 30-40% fewer pages I’d re-read it regularly!

@teej_dv Congrats on your third! Have you read Grokking Simplicity by @ericnormand? It has some JavaScript examples, but if read those out transcribed to Clojure, it should not hurt your baby.

getting alot of questions about how i did the switch from vscode to vim without knowing any vim keybinds, will try to lay it out briefly here: - started from not knowing any vim keybinds (aka vim motions) - first learned what the main/core vim motions are by installing neovim and doing :Tutor (google this if you are confused) - finished Tutor (about 30 mins) - did the first 7 levels of vim-adventures.com (stopped after it started getting really puzzly and not just about learning the motions) (1-2 hrs) - installed the vim vscode extension to use vim motions within vs code - didnt try to learn new motions until i got the core ones down. hjkl, w, b, e, d, c, / can take you most of the way there - started to focus on learning some more advanced keybinds about text manipulation, navigation, searching - after a week i started to feel comfortable with the core bindings and started to feel held back in vscode by things like native file navigation and search - i decided to switch to neovim, and started my neovim setup by watching and following "The Only Video You Need to Get Started with Neovim" by @teej_dv. highly recommend this video on youtube - did some small other setup to make it fit what i want to do, and been getting faster and learning more motions since
deor@Deor

switched from using vscode for 5y to neovim and the difference in how it feels, productivity, etc, is insane mini thread with my thoughts about it/how i switched also ss of my setup below (kitty terminal)

@zenhorace I also think it's better at code analysis. For example, I really wish that nil-checking a pointer in Go added some metadata to warn me about redundant nil-checks further down other branches

@zenhorace Sometimes I have to write my buffer twice for changes to propagate. I also think it's better at pinpointing errors. In Go, you kinda get the same error echoed everywhere. Also, when I install a new package, the tsserver just picks that up instantly and it becomes available to use

Just finished up @ajmedwards book “Let’s Go”, and saying it blew me away is an understatement. In my opinion it’s on the same tier as @thorstenball “Writing a _ in Go” series and is absolutely phenomenal. Can’t wait to dig into “Let’s Go Further” here in a couple days.

@caarlos0 Amethyst fixes most of the issues I’ve had with not being able to fully disable animations. It’s not as powerful as xmonad/i3 but a big step up when compared to every other window manager I’ve tried on osx!

my wishlist for the next macos version: - global shortcut to add event/reminder - markdown support in notes - ability to fully disable animations - fix the random audio bugs over bluetooth (specially when using bluetooth mics with safari)

@felixge I think they messed up the algorithm too much. Anything that doesn't get tons of interaction within the first few minutes seem to get buried. I really miss the days when I would come on here and get to read so many good discussions that weren't posted by "influencers"

I while ago I claimed that LinkedIn is going to eat tech Twitter over the next few years. 73% disagreed with me. So let me show some numbers from a recent blog post: 7.5% of my LinkedIn followers visited the post vs 0.75% of my Twitter followers 😢.

@marcuslindblad Det ska bli väldigt intressant att se vad som är inprisat! Jag tror många fokuserar på kassaflödet och skuldsättningen. Minskar risken för nyemission så börjar nog blankarna täcka.

I finally found some time to upgrade my website to the latest version of next.js The process was super smooth and took less than 10 minutes. It's also kinda mind blowing that I've hosted conner.dev on @vercel for the past 4 years and never had to pay a dime. I really appreciate all your work @rauchg @leeerob @raunofreiberg @timneutkens @shadcn @shuding
