Just seen the FA Cup Semi-Final draw. Possibility of a Leeds v Southampton Final like in 1973. #facup

@katheder Would people not prefer the Monday rather than giving up their Easter Sunday with family?

@crusaders1898 I don't know the formal answer but presumptively the mobilisation, not withstanding the countermand, was the first move of the insurrection.

@dscullylimerick I wasn't aware of that aspect. That makes sense. I thought they all held their commemorations on the Sunday.

@SteveZfxx9 @nivraxx Say "I for chair" out loud, super fast, no pauses. It slurs together into "I fornicate." That's the rebus punchline—the sign's warning you not to rush it or it'll sound filthy. 😂

In 1974, Chinatown and Godfather II were released. Two great, complex tragedies. But different. Chinatown is in the Greek mode, where fate destroys men; and Godfather II is in the Shakespearean, where men destroy themselves.

@McKinleyAn Elitism is sometimes merited. Though in this case, while he might be right that Harry Potter is not comparable to children's classics, my son definitely benefited from reading all the books.

@ianjamesparsley @irish_news Indeed. The economic decline of NI was the result of general industrial decline in the west. Also happened in the north of England, south Wales, Belgium and other places.

@irish_news Quite normal. The north of England was once richer than the south. The north of Germany was once much richer than the south. In the post-industrial era this inevitably reversed. (Still not quite sure what the point of such articles is.)

"At the time of partition, Belfast was the biggest city in Ireland. The six counties which were partitioned off produced two-thirds of the industrial output of the island and were the richest part. "Fast forward and you also know the story." Read Brian Feeney: tinyurl.com/z76tkk4h

On the contrary, it’s a direct equivalence. British Remembrance includes honouring UDR, RUC, B Specials, Tans, Paras & more. Respect for British Remembrance by Republicans warrants reciprocation at Easter time by those genuinely seeking reconciliation, a shared today & future.
Choyaa@Choyaa13

@chrisadonnelly This is false equivalence, Chris. Remembrance Day honours sacrifices in multiple wars, including 200k Irishmen (Nationalists & Republicans among them) who served. The Easter Rising celebrates a separatist rebellion against British rule, Unionism has no reason to attend.
