My view of the state of affairs: - MEV was an attack on Ethereum. Instead of working against it, we shared the proceeds with enough people to shut the majority up. Problem made not-a-problem. - Liquid staking was an attack on Ethereum. Instead of solving it, we promoted many cascading staking solutions so everyone can pick their poison. Problem made not-a-problem. - State growth is an issue. We're making stateless validation so people "staking their money" are happy, and the rest can just use some provider, they have no say really. Problem made not-a-problem. We are not solving problems. We are democratising them so enough people of the right groups are paid to shut up and run with it. Ethereum itself doesn't scale any better than it did 5 yeast ago; it just has provable central servers to run bits of it fast. The mantra is that "yes, but they are provable, so what's the problem"; and my counter to that is that you are giving away the keys to the kingdom to kingmakers who can be trivially coopted or coerced. The problem with the current banking system isn't that they do "invalid state changes". The problem is that they pick and chose. We recreated the same exact system. We have crypto proofs instead of government audits, but the thing's exactly the same: the operators are honest in their execution, but have free reign what to execute or not execute. We're back to square one, except we've embraced all the bad practices banks at least have laws not to do (whether they abide or not is a different story). Why are we better than them? We want Ethereum to be a global system trusted by any country. Well, if block production is ran in 3 US data centers, then your global trust is down the drain. Nobody's going to delegate their critical infrastructure to an entity than can be bent by the US will to do or not do things at key moments, or to front run at opportune moments. Does this mean Ethereum fails? No, of course not. Ethereum itself is an extremely valuable system and in my opinion can become much much more so, independent on which path it does down on. We can make an extremely valuable global settlement layer that's fast, can do amazing things, is "trust-less"; but at the same time still is controlled by US interests. Number does go up, just it's not really the Ethereum we started out to build.

Repeat after me: AI is a tool. There is no self aware, recursively self updating, sentient, always running super intelligence bent on taking over the world. Except in your imagination. And we don't make laws based on imagination.
