I don't think it's mischaracterization to say that a severely traumatized person would struggle to express negative emotions in a healthy way, perhaps with angry/violent outbursts that they immediately regret after doing 🙃

@fawntasiez I fear it isn’t helped as well with bloodymary shipping as well because phm is inherently more lighthearted/cheerful/bright than iron lung is, so people subconsciously see the tones of the movies and put them towards the characters as well

Dare I say the mischaracterization got much worse when people started shipping bloodymary - grace being portrayed as the bright energetic hopefully optimist, Simon being shown as the gloomy pessimist in contrast like guys please they both have nuance in personality and behavior

Okay I gotta say it I’m bored of people portraying Simon as always grumpy and disinterested. Just because he’s displeased and closed off with his jailers doesn’t mean that’s who he is, that’s just natural. He’s curious and innovative, determined, loving and hopeful !!!!

@cryptid_bard @crysbii oh im actually so glad ure saying this bc this has been bugging me SO MUCH. yes, simon is probably very defensive and can display a short temper WHEN UNDER PRESSURE due to trauma. but he is NOT mean he’s not broody and scary, he is a product of his past GUYS PLEASE 😭

@cryptid_bard simon is an incredibly kind and gentle person. every time i find a fic or something that highlights it i eat it up. bloodymary is wildly compelling but not when there’s such intense mischaracterization. let simon be kind ! sun/moon can exist without all-encompassing doom n gloom

@cryptid_bard I mean TRUE, buuuuut (don't hit me) but i think he also absolutely can not be stable and mentally well from the get go. He went trough literal hell, he is gonna have some personality problems. So, i think to the some amount him beign grumpy is reasonable?..

@douggydraws @cryptid_bard Even more painful is that it's technically not even his fault. The camera wasn't supposed to go off, it was the COI (Specifically David) that had wired it incorrectly. He still apologizes twice after learning this detail, still thinks it's 100% his fault.

@astrophagocyte You’re so right all around like yeah he lashes out because he’s scared and he’s trying to survive! Survival instincts are one thing, but more often we see how gentle, caring and hopeful he is. He apologizes to the console after hitting it in frustration, he’s not mean or uncaring
