BREAKING: The median age of a first-time homebuyer in the US has surged to a record 40 years old. This is up from a median age of 33 years old in 2021 and 29 in 1981. Over the last year, first-time buyers made up just 21% of purchases, the lowest on record. Meanwhile, the typical age of repeat buyers hit an all-time high of 62, with their median down payments reaching 23%, the highest since 2003. Record home prices and high mortgage rates have created the worst buying conditions on record, locking younger Americans out of homeownership. The US housing affordability crisis is worsening.
