Blockstream received funding from Epstein through Joi Ito. They didn’t like that Joi and Epstein had also given funding to Stellar and Ripple. There was a phone call to figure out how to handle withdrawing funding from Stellar and Ripple. That’s the “conflict” @adam3us is talking about.

In 2014, during Blockstream’s seed-round investor roadshow, the company was introduced to then MIT Media Lab director Joi Ito. Subsequently Blockstream met with Jeffrey Epstein, who was described at the time as a limited partner in Ito’s fund. That fund later invested a minority stake in Blockstream. A few months later, Ito’s fund divested its Blockstream shares due to a potential conflict of interest, and other concerns. Blockstream has no direct nor indirect financial connection with Jeffrey Epstein, or his estate.

• The Pivot: Epstein was aggressively trying to rebuild his "intellectual" brand by infiltrating the emerging "futurist" and blockchain circles that Gavin led.
The "No" That Saved Bitcoin
While other tech elites like Joi Ito and Reid Hoffman eventually entered Epstein’s orbit, Gavin’s response was a legendary four-word shutdown:
"No, sorry, I'm busy."
This blunt refusal prevented Epstein from gaining an early foothold in the Bitcoin development during its most vulnerable transition period.
