@karthik2k2 So imaginatively penned as usual Do you see a shift in these dynamics with the new generation? Nowadays many women are very committed to travelling jobs with men stuck at home. Would his ego let him follow his wife on a staycation? Perhaps for u to write on another occasion😀

I have a patient who I have known for a couple of years. I am not sure if other doctors have favorite patients, but this man is one of those people who make my day a little brighter each time I meet him. He is in his late sixties, impeccably dressed and has a kind of precision in his speech and demeanour - not unlike Kalyana Malai Mohan. He does have his share of health issues, but he has never let the disease dominate him. He came with his wife. He handed me the lab reports - the numbers were fine, but he seemed a little off. I had some time to kill, and as always, I decided to dig deeper. He said, “ Sir, this is an awkward problem - my health has taken a turn for the worse in the last few years ..Now my wife doesn’t allow me to go out of the house. She takes care of me well, and gives tablets and food on time. I watch TV and spend my time, but it gets boring . I used to be a high flyer, literally . Now I feel empty” It was the wife’s turn to speak. She said, “ I have been a home maker all my life. While he traveled for work, I took care of our kids - who are now in the US and Australia. I have never once wanted to go out and see the world, because to me my family is my world. Doctors have asked him to not take too much stress or eat outside , but he doesn’t understand. The numbers in his lab reports are a testament to my work. Yet, he wants to go out. All I want is to just serve him ! “ Before you singles get excited , remember these are 60s kids. I was amused - it looked like Rashmika’s Samy Samy song, without music. The man immediately protested - “ I am not just going out. I want to do some work, any work. I don’t do the business for money, but for satisfaction”. His wife wasn’t convinced. They were both right. If we get guaranteed food, clothing and shelter - we can be alive. But existing is different from living. Different people have different psychological needs - one of the deepest needs of a man is to work. This is why many men seemed to sink into depression after retirement. The wife felt she gave everything , yet her husband seemed more devoted to work. I told her, “ Just as caring gives meaning to your life, working gives meaning to his. For such a man, not working is more stressful than working. Why not give him that chance ? “ I turned to him, “ Sir, you have seen more of life and the world than me. But this is my two cents - Sometimes, a little appreciation might work wonders. An acknowledgement of the sacrifices is best done by actions. You want to travel to another state for a project - why not make it a workation ? It’s the rage these days. This way, she gets to take care of you and even see some new places, while you can have a change of place and get to do some work. It might even be a second honey moon :-)” They laughed, but seemed open to the idea. He said, “ Thanks doctor. No one has ever sided with me in this debate , except you !”. His wife retorted, “ Oh, don’t be silly. He spoke in my favor” His usual joie de vivre was back. I repeated the drugs and sent them, realising again that pills and potions won’t always solve problems. While he left the room, he turned back, and gave a nod and a knowing smile. Felt like an inter generational bro code. All three of us were happy. And the day ended.

@providenceendo All alternate system medicines and their procedures are 100 % and hence will not have any complications. Didnt you know that? Side effects and complications only happen in the so called modern medical system .
