Some place called Smokey Bones is closing… - chain restaurants are awful. - we have too many restaurants in America. - eating out used to be a luxury, laziness made it routine for many. - so many complain about being broke, but dine out all the time.

@troybeck it may be, but you also seem to want to disregard and minimize that issue, when it’s a real reason why a lot of people stopped going there as much … and I say that as someone who has loved going there for about 20 years

@MartyGriffinKD They made a bad business decision to try to expand to Portland? Or was it them realizing they make more money in the beer sales space? Or was it the remodel that was nothing like the original? Or was it the 7 menu changes? It’s much more than “neighborhood=bad”, Marty.

Thankful that @JayBilas addressed this on College GameDay. Suddenly college sports need “saving” because college athletes are being paid and can transfer. Suddenly the NCAA needs antitrust protection. Odd. For decades, while everyone ate off the backs of college athletes, nobody sought federal regulation. Nobody sought an antitrust exemption. The urgency to lobby Congress to "save college sports" only came to be once the college athletes started getting paid. Let that sink in.

Don Kelly said yesterday that Jared Triolo’s off day was planned, part of efforts to keep players fresh and healthy. Today’s presumably the same for Brandon Lowe and Ryan O’Hearn. Means we’ll see a rare Spencer Horwitz start against a lefty.

@CarterCritiques You say this as if it’s not going to be year 9 … nobody was citing this NIL issue last year when he had a solid roster and the season was a dumpster fire … he has coached 17 years and made the tournament 4 times , the coach k/Duke deference is embarrassing

The decision to keep Jeff Capel made the most sense for the same reason it did after the 2021-2022 season. Buyout is a big number and #Pitt athletics is already trying to solve financial issues from previous admin. Adding two buyouts when you’re already bottom of the conference in NIL spending — which is the biggest reason Pitt was terrible this year — would only make you much worse. Giving Capel another year keeps his strong recruiting class together, saves you money, and gives you time. Either he turns the next team into a winner or you roll. And if anything, the financial situation is even worse than it was before within the department. Actually invest in this next team and try to win. Then go from there.

@pittchagg disastrous? He’s been there one year and has consistently turned around programs … how has the hire been disastrous?

Maryland and Pitt have always seemed to have some parallels in this regard. I sure hope Pitt doesn’t make a hire as disastrous as Maryland hiring Buzz Williams.

@AmandaFGodsey this is phrased as if there isn’t an 8-year resume … last season was a grease fire, and that roster was good

I certainly understand those who want Jeff Capel gone. But I also understand those saying, "hey instead of paying an eight-figure buyout, maybe spend that money on players?"

@WillGravesAP what is the persuasive evidence that Capel can succeed with good players not named Blake Griffin? It’s been 8 years, and there was plenty of talent on the roster last season, which ended up being a disaster.

I understand the frustration with the results. The dip in attendance has been Stallings-esque. And you can't have that. But how attractive is this job at the moment? Good enough to attract a coach w/enough swag to keep the incoming class intact? I dunno.

Unpopular opinion: I'd give Jeff Capel another year. Let him have a chance to see if those incoming freshmen he recruited are as good as advertised. Pursuing the buyout and likely losing some if not all of the recruits seems fiscally dubious ... and for what?

Boeheim says Capel is a good coach with no money it’s just that simple. Then used Virginia as an example they had no nil last year but got more money this year and have a better team.

This is troubling for the NBA. Everyone knows it’s the dirtiest league by far but this statement by Lin here is amazing. The NBA should address it, but they won’t.
