@Sportsnet @SportsnetSpec “Carey Price defense in front of Mikko Koskinen goaltending” is apt. Even with Price the Habs got to the big dance only once. This team lacks discipline to not take bad penalties and manage the puck. Really makes one question the hockey IQ of some of the core.
English

When McDavid and Draisaitl stood as a united front about the Oilers' need for change, it showed a necessary passion but underlined just how do-or-die next season will be.
@SportsnetSpec looks at things we (think we) know. sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/th…

@EdmOilerlytics Given what gong show the entire team was defensively and that the M NTC kicks in a year, they won’t be able to move him because he won’t agree to be moved in the next 12 months. He’ll use it as a show me opportunity.
English

@KevinMcCurdy And the benefits of directing the puck to the net and looking for bounces and deflections.
English

@jus_tinb94 @nielsonTSN1260 Vegas never fired a GM. McPhee there since day 1. McKrimmon was promoted to GM from Assistant GM while McPhee stayed as President of HO in ‘18 as a retention strategy when Edm was sniffing around him. They have had few HC than Edm since ‘17
English

@nielsonTSN1260 Clean house. How many coaches and GM’s has Vegas gone through as soon as they get a sniff of things going the wrong way? They’ve proven it works and they have no tolerance for losing. They also somehow manage to always add the big names to their roster.
English

@dstaples @edmontonjournal There is not enough good to offset the bad hence why the team has gotten progressively the last two years and the future is bleak. I haven’t even touched on the old boys club BS that saw Zito ditched for Holland…

'I'm a little bit disgusted': wildly-popular NHL commentator rips into Edmonton Oilers management
And whether he's right or wrong, many Oilers fan are nodding along in agreement.

English

@dstaples @edmontonjournal He’s right. The scouting acumen, trades, contracts were self inflicted. Reinhart, Eberley, Lucic, Campbell, Puljujarvi, Fayne, Gryba, Nurse, Frederic, Aberg, kassian, Spooner, Stolarz, Forsberg, Athanasiou, Green, etc has bled talent, picks and cap space for negative returns.
English

@dstaples @jimmathesonnhl No one wins a 97 trade. As pointed out by @dstaples, a team would have to give up real assets that reduces their ceiling while Edmonton takes a huge step backwards plus it may fracture the relationship with 29. No team pays a kings ransom and contends still. Think 99 trade
English

@jimmathesonnhl They can’t trade him as he has a no move clause. Why would he not just go UFA? Why harm his new team by having to give up so many assets?
English

I would say one year. After next season if Edm doesn’t win they will go to Connor and ask if he is in for longer haul, multi-year deal for way more $18m AAV or more. If he demurs they will have to trade him in 2027 because can’t have him walk for nothing. 97 will work with them
Nate@nateb2399
@jimmathesonnhl 2 years to win a cup, then all bets are off
English

@dottosen @FriedgeHNIC Bowman isn’t going anywhere after 2 years and will get one coach change before he’s canned. Neither is Knob with that 3 yr extension.
English

imagine being on the clock with one of the best players in the world and putting together an average team with self-inflicted mistakes. imagine!
Chris Johnston@reporterchris
Connor McDavid says the #oilers were an "average team with high expectations": "That's been the whole year. We've been searching for consistency the whole year. Obviously we didn't find it in the playoffs."
English

@SportsnetSpec The average age of the Oilers is over 29, Ducks under 28. Curious what the top six gap is. Speed (and youth) kills.
English

@Bob_Stauffer: "There is going to be a serious evaluation of what went on this year" #LetsGoOilers
English

@MorganLaidler Unfortunately, Katz isn’t going to that three year extension as charity. He’ll be back but I suspect he’ll be the only one.
English

@MorganLaidler Only way nurse jarry frederic go is through a buyout. But that isn’t an option as the nurse and jarry contracts are heavy to bonuses so saves nothing. They are bottom of the roster players for the foreseeable future. At three million Frederic will be tolerable with cap going up
English

@ToddFuhrman @NHL_Watcher Ingram is fine. Detroit did it with above average, not stellar goaltending. You could have Price in his prime back there and they still lose. This team has way bigger problems to address.
English

@NHL_Watcher This roster has a lot more than goaltending that needs to be addressed
English

@keebs82 @NHL_Watcher His new contract doesn’t start until next season. Can’t talk extension until 2027. Expires 2028. puckpedia.com/player/connor-…
English

@KevinMcCurdy Great start but I’m not sure I would say locked down. Way too much time in their own zone. Easier to play defense with possession two hundred feet from your own net.
English

#neverindoubt 2/16
Very strong start. Best defensive effort of the series by a landslide. Absolutely locked down at the end.
English

@bigmouthsports I think they’re getting the gas and brake mixed up. This is playing with fire.
English

So this is the litmus test (never said there wouldn't be any chemistry in my posts). Foot MUST stay on the gas, esp. if Ducks fluke one out. #LetsGoOilers
