The Australian Sandbelt has come to Georgia…yup, you’ve read that right.
Learning about The Fall Line in Georgia with DOG Andrew Shuck was a ton of fun…you should listen

While #Tifgrand may not be “modern” when compared to current grasses, I cannot state its overriding playabilty & characteristics compared to those same current grasses. Density to withstand wear & traffic & doesn’t melt away like others. Unmatched playabilty for a bermudagrass.
We couldn't be happier or more proud of The Fall Line East Course being voted by @GolfDigest as the Best New Private Course in the US! Forever grateful to the ownership for putting their faith in a bunch of Australians to deliver something unique & special in Butler, Georgia.
My thoughts on Fall Line are that it is a remarkable achievement and that @OCMGolf is about to explode on to the golf architecture/development scene in the U.S.
The East Course is fantastic. I am a huge fan of heathland-style golf, and somehow, in the middle-of-nowhere Georgia, they captured the essence of places like Swinley Forest and Sunningdale.
The West Course is, well, simply remarkable. If Royal Melbourne and Kingston Heath eloped to America, settled in Georgia and birthed a child, it would be this golf course. I don’t know how they succeeded where so many others have failed, but they have replicated the Melbourne Sandbelt experience to perfection.
I am not a jealous man. But the fact that members get to play true heathland golf in the morning and sandbelt golf in the afternoon, and then switch it up the next day if they so decide, without ever leaving the property or getting in a car, gives me pangs of envy for sure.
For me, right out of the gate, Fall Line joins the very exclusive group of private clubs with two exceptional full-18 hole golf courses - Winged Foot, MPCC, Royal Melbourne. Both courses are World Top 100 worthy - the place is that good.
And I haven’t even mentioned the absurdly cool short course they built.
I can’t even imagine what the place will be like once everything else is built out.
"Only on Melbourne’s famed sandbelt courses is it possible to build bunkers that cut right into the putting surface” said many a well-known architect & superintendent. Well, we’re not sure that’s entirely true. Introducing the West course at The Fall Line. Images: @linkslandphoto
Fall in Flagstaff is unreal! I never would’ve thought when we moved to the high desert of AZ we’d see such incredible fall colors. “You can tell this is an aspen tree because of the way it is”🍂
Well it’s now official!! I am beyond excited to be a Girl Dad! Can’t wait to welcome you to this world Elizabeth Reese! Thank you to everyone who came to support us today and be part of this special moment!! #girldad#HailState
@tonynyssegcs@Bvallison Tony,
Have to played around with any Lazer? Would like to figure out which greens Zoysia works better in shady”er” areas. Hope all is well.
The West Course at the brand-new Fall Line Club was birthed as a bold attempt by @OCMGolf to bring the look and spirit of the Melbourne Sandbelt to Georgia.
Short of digging up Royal Melbourne and moving it 9,000 miles to the forest south of Atlanta, they could not possibly have done better. No course outside of Australia captures the look and feel of those sandbelt courses as well as they have here - not even close. It’s truly uncanny - you could cut yourself on the edges of those bunkers!
Beyond just the sandbelt aesthetic, the overall design of the course is absolutely superb. Mind-blowingly good. I really don’t like predicting if/where new courses will fall on the various rankings lists and which accolades they’ll receive, so I won’t. But I will say this: on my personal/theoretical list of my favorite modern (post-1950) courses that I may or may not keep, Fall Line West walked right into the top-3, and I’m not sure where amongst that incredible company it might settle in. Been quite a while since that happened (hypothetically speaking, if I had such a list).
65 million years ago, an ancient shoreline stretched from Columbus to Augusta, leaving 200 miles of sand dunes, lakes, pines & low growing natives & grasses. Land which is perfect for golf... Introducing The Fall Line. East, West and Short Course. Our first new build in the USA.
@bentgrassdoctor Thanks Doc. We wouldn’t be where we are without your dedication and influence. You have helped shape some amazing individuals for sure.
GOLF COURSE GURUS rate the Bayonne GC as No. 2 in NJ behind Pine Valley & No. 62 in the US.
Eric Bergstol, Architect/owner, recently enhanced the experience with new 007XL bentgrass greens, redesigned the 9th green, and rebuilt 11 revetted bunkers, added tees on holes 1 and 7.
The shared double green on the 3rd and 6th holes of our Texas project features one of the most dramatic green sites we've ever built. A series of plateaus interspersed with small barrancas separate the 2 greens —reminiscent of the great Biarritz-style 16th at North Berwick.
