I'm having the most fun in years learning applied category theory. It's tempting to say it's "like lego", but it's more like a philosopher's stone that turns _everything else_ into your lego twitter.com/johncarlosbaez…

@mattecapu @abomnblejoeman I've been blocked from viewing this reply, though I think I was once able to. Hoping it's a clarification of "reflection": could someone post what it says? Thanks.

The core reason behind the duality between algebra and geometry is that maps of algebras preserve structure, while maps of spaces reflect it (take a moment to think about your fav examples...).

ChatGPT plots Noddy in R. The image is an amalgamation of my prompts and its replies. With a bit of backtracking, I managed to get round the barriers that sometimes stop it telling stories, and to inveigle commands to plot the results.

@TWenseleers I wonder whether there's any way that Inductive Logic Programming could be dragged into them, so that they learn a humanly-intelligible (though perhaps approximate) symbolic representation at the same time as what they're learning now. /8 end

Bing/Sidney learned to play chess out of the box... Impressive that a large language model can do this. And if you ask it's also clear that it memorizes an internal representation of the board during the game...
Arvind Narayanan@random_walker

Great example of why you shouldn't read too much into analogies like "bullshit generator" and "blurry JPEG of the web". The best way to predict the next move in a sequence of chess moves is… to build an internal model of chess rules and strategy, which Sydney seems to have done.
