From Charles Simic’s 2nd to last book, ‘Come Closer and Listen,

I’m very sad he’s gone.

I didn’t know Simic well, but he has been one of “my” poets for a very long time, a touchstone, a beacon, a conscience. The intro he wrote for my Edson book, which he did for free and so beautifully, must have been one of the last (of many) such things he wrote.
