CTI - Convention against Torture Initiative

Last Friday at #UPR52, the recommendations section of #Palau’s 4th UPR report was adopted, with 1️⃣8️⃣5️⃣ recommendations, including 1️⃣7️⃣ on #UNCAT ratification. Hon. Gustav N. Aitaro, Minister of State, reaffirmed that Palau is progressively working towards #UNCAT ratification.

Yesterday at #UPR52, 12 States recommended that #Singapore 🇸🇬 ratify #UNCAT, including Core States 🇨🇱🇬🇭🇮🇩, w/ 7 other States recommending ratification of all core int'l human rights treaties. CTI & our Core States stand ready to support 🇸🇬 in its UNCAT ratification journey📄🤝

🚨 At yesterday’s #UPR52 review of #SolomonIslands, 9 States, representing nearly 15% of participants, called for ratification of the #UNCAT. CTI and its Core States encourage 🇸🇧 to accept these recommendations and remain ready to support the next steps.💪

🇸🇧 At #SolomonIslands’ review at #UPR52, 4 CTI Core States 🇧🇸 🇨🇱 🇮🇩 🇲🇦 recommended ratification of the Convention against Torture #UNCAT. The Bahamas noted that CTI stands ready to cooperate with Solomon Islands, if deemed helpful, in line with its national priorities.

🚨 Last Thursday at #Palau’s review at #UPR52, 17 States, nearly 30% of participants, recommended ratification of the #UNCAT. CTI and its Core States encourage acceptance of these recommendations and stand ready to support the next steps.

At #UPR52 yesterday, Palau 🇵🇼 stated that it continues to work towards the ratification of the Convention against Torture #UNCAT, including through legal review and institutional assessment. CTI and its Core States stand ready to support Palau in this process!

Preventing and addressing #torture takes strong collaboration. We were pleased to hold a dinner this week with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, hosted by @Morocco_UNOG, to discuss cooperation towards #UNCAT ratification and implementation.
