This morning, Sen. Harding joined host Gary Byron on The Talk of Connecticut to discuss a proposed 11% electricity rate hike from one of Connecticut’s largest utility companies. The hardworking people in our state are already stretched thin. They shouldn’t have to worry about keeping the lights on. During the 2026 Legislative Session, Senate Republicans put forward a proposal to eliminate Public Benefits Charges from your electric bill and lower electricity rates, but it was voted down on party lines. CT Democrats voted NO to lowering your electric bills, NO to eliminating Public Benefits Charges, and NO to making Connecticut more affordable. Their failed leadership keeps driving costs up for Connecticut residents. Senate Republicans will never stop fighting to eliminate these charges and make Connecticut affordable for everyone.

For months, CT Senate Republicans have been calling on Governor Lamont to provide relief for Connecticut’s local dairy farmers, and today was a first step in the right direction. Only about 80 dairy farms are remaining in Connecticut, and they are facing a real sustainability crisis. These are hardworking, blue-collar, family-owned operations run by people who want nothing more than to provide food for our state and our country. But unaffordable Connecticut policies have made it harder and harder to do so. Fewer farms means less local food, and once those farms are gone, they are gone for good. We appreciate that the Governor listened to our senators and has announced some relief for dairy farmers. But there is much more to be done to make Connecticut more affordable for all our farmers and job creators, and we will not stop until that work is finished.

In January, as farmers faced insurmountable tax increases, we held a press conference and hosted a Farmers Forum to hear directly from these hardworking people about their experiences owning and operating farms across our state. We listened, we stood with them, and helped amplify their voices to fight for real relief. Legislation providing millions in dairy-related tax credits, grants, and a new working group dedicated to the long-term sustainability of dairy farming passed both the Senate and the House at the end of the 2026 Legislative Session. We urge Governor Lamont to sign this bill into law immediately and help the people who grow our food and support our state’s agriculture industry. Connecticut’s dairy farmers have carried this state on their backs for generations. They deserve a state that has their backs too.

After confirmed cases of absentee ballot fraud in Bridgeport, Democrats continue to vote against measures that would secure our elections, such as requiring voters to show an ID when casting their ballot. CT Republicans will continue to fight for voter ID and more common sense laws to protect your voting rights and ensure fair elections.

CT Senate Republicans will introduce an amendment today on the Senate floor to ELIMINATE PUBLIC BENEFITS CHARGES and lower electric rates. We’ll see if Democrats have the courage to join us in delivering real relief to Connecticut residents.
