All of that is up in the air with no coach and a tougher league. So I don’t blame the players at all for exploring their options.

This group has done something truly unbelievable. A team without a field to practice on. 4 games played in the snow. Countless reschedules. 11 games in 15 days. They relentlessly press forward towards their goal. There are no excuses, there are only solutions. Find a way to win.

The ability to control the situation in such a way is remarkable. You can try to prepare for that moment, but it takes something extra to make that pitch. Some have it and some don’t. Cesar Gomez has it, and I’m glad he’s on our team.

The energy of that moment can’t be put into words. Months, years of hard work culminate to a single pitch. Careers hang in the balance. Fans and players are already in tears. Before the 3-2 pitch Gomez used an inside move and looked to 2nd base. “It didn’t feel right” he said.

To reiterate Gomez’s performance: he entered the game bases loaded 0 out bottom 7 with a 2 run lead. He goes strikeout swinging, then walk to make it 10-9. With the tying run at 3rd he goes strikeout looking for out 2, and with a 3-2 count fires strike 3 swinging to end the game.
