The #Monument consists of garbhagriha, sukhanasi and a sabhamandapa in east-west axis. There is a circumbulatory passage covering garbhagriha and antarala. At the outset and even from a distance it attracts our attention because of the presence of the prominent northern type sikhara. It is described as belonging to Rekha- Nagara type, a sub type of Nagara or north Indian variety of sikhara.

The Monument is " Mallikarjuna Temple" Pattadakal
Mallikarjuna temple is another elegant Dravidian type temple at Pattadakal. According to the inscriptions this temple was built by queen Trailokya Mahadevi, the wife of Chalukya king Vikramaditya II in about 740 C.E. Though it is called by the name Mallikarjuna temple now, it was originally referred to as the temple of Trailokyesvara.

This #Monument represents an important stage of a harmonious combination of south and north Indian characters, namely Dravida and Nagara, which some scholars refer to as Vesara. The sikhara belongs to the Rekha Nagara type while the other characters like shala, kuta and hara belong to the Dravidian type. As this temple has both these characters, it is considered unique.

The Monument is "Ladkhan Temple, Aihole"
Ladkhan temple is a very important temple at Aihole because of the technique of its construction which marks an important stage in the evolution of Chalukyan style of architecture. It is called Ladkhan temple because a man by name Ladkhan lived in the temple and hence people began to call it so. It has a peculiar plan and does not give the impression of a temple at all in the first instance. Actually it looks like a mandapa with rows of pillars. The temple consists of a small garbhagriha attached to the rear wall of a square sabhamandapa and a rectangular mukhamandapa. Hence there is no pradakshinapatha. The interior of the sabhamandapa is divided into two parallel enclosures with the help of a row of pillars.
