Winter weather can be tough on silage quality, but there are steps you can take to combat it. One such step is using a high-quality silage additive. These additives help maintain pH levels, reduce spoilage, and improve overall silage quality. ❄️🌱

What can you learn from 2023? 🤔 Did you use a silage additive this year? If grass is ensiled without an additive, the fermentation will be at the mercy of whatever bacteria are naturally present on the grass, including bad bacteria, which is an unnecessary risk!

Winter silage preservation tip: Keep an eye on your silage face! During the colder months, it's essential to limit the exposure of silage to oxygen. As you feed out, always maintain a clean, tight face, and consider using a block cutter. ❄️🐄🌾

Silage slipping giving you a headache? 🙇‍♂️ If it's slipping from the top, it might be due to mixing wet and dry #silage. 🌧️ If it's slipping from the base, young, leafy grass might not have been wilted enough. Adjust moisture levels and chop length to improve clamp stability! 🌾

When it comes to #silage face management, timing is key! COLD WEATHER: Aim to move the silage face back at least 1 meter per week. WARM WEATHER: Consider moving it back even faster, around 2 meters per week. This is particularly important for silages with over 30% dry matter.
