Happy #NationalWaffleDay! 🧇🍁 The best way to celebrate? With real maple syrup. It takes about 40 litres of sap to make just one litre of maple syrup and that sweet pour starts in the sugar maple forests of the Credit River Watershed. Experience the journey from tree to table at Maple Syrup in the Park at Terra Cotta Conservation Area (final day is March 29!). Learn more and plan your visit: cvc.ca/sap-to-syrup-w…

Cold water is a serious risk in spring. Even as air temperatures rise, rivers, ponds and lakes remain near freezing. Spring rains can create deeper, faster-flowing sections of river. Be safe this spring and remember the following tips: - Avoid walking close to or across riverbanks. Riverbanks can become unstable in the spring due to snowmelt and erosion. - Do not drive through flooded roads or fast-moving water. - Avoid all recreational activities in or around water, especially near ice-covered watercourses and waterbodies. - Never attempt to rescue a person or pet from icy water, call 911 Read more safety tips in our spring safety message: cvc.ca/news/public-se…

Warmer temperatures across the Credit River Watershed are melting this winter’s heavy snowpack and this is good news for our water resources. For example: ❄️ A deep snowpack acts like a natural reservoir. As it melts, it slowly releases water into the ground, helping recharge aquifers and replenish groundwater supplies. 💧 This recharge is especially important after the late-summer and fall drought conditions we experienced last year. Healthy groundwater levels support ecosystems, maintain streamflow, and are vital for agricultural communities that rely on consistent water availability. 🌱 As we transition into spring, this gradual melt is an essential part of keeping the Credit River Watershed resilient. PARKS UPDATE: We’re planning a controlled grassland burn at Upper Credit Conservation Area, located at 20073 Porterfield Road, Alton. The controlled burn will take place on a single day between March 30 and May 15, 2026. The park and trails will be closed the day of the burn and there will be no access to the parking lot and trails. CVC staff and a professional fire crew will determine the ideal date and time based on site and weather conditions. The burn will take approximately one hour to complete on the selected date. Once confirmed, we will share the date on our website and social media. The goal of our controlled burn is to remove invasive, non-native plants so a healthy native grassland with diverse species can establish and thrive. Learn more: cvc.ca/UCburn

Planting native trees and shrubs is a powerful step toward long-term land stewardship. 🌳Our direct sale program supports landowners who want to improve their landscape with native species at a manageable scale, while our larger restoration program remains available for multi-acre projects. Both approaches play an important role in watershed health. Learn more and shop native trees and shrubs: store.cvc.ca 📸 Common ninebark
