Be careful when you come into a new position and start working with a new team. Some people will meet a new leader and see it as an opportunity to quickly shift things in their chosen direction by getting the new leader to commit to their personal agendas . . . before the new leader gets to know how things work. Promising something to someone too quickly when you are new in a position might mean that you have inadvertently taken something away from someone else. Beware of individuals and small groups within the larger group who try to influence you to make changes too quickly. You need to consider all stakeholders. In any organization of more than one person, there is always an undercurrent of “what is not seen” and “what is not said.” Saying the wrong thing at the wrong time to the wrong person is one of the fastest ways to derail a career.
