@academic_exit I moved from my postdoc making ~$54,000 to making $100,000 as a field applications scientist. More than the pay, it's the company car, the 15 days vacation, and this Thanksgiving being the first holiday in 8 years I've not brought work along on a holiday break!

As an incredibly "slow thinker" I often find myself saying "I would need to look back at my notes" or "I will have to think about this more" in conversations, and it remains a HUGE source of anxiety for me. I'm competent, I promise! Just let me brain sort through the madness 🤣

As someone who is a slow thinker I've always thought we in science put too much emphasis on fast thinking, Q&As, chalk talks, thesis exams, many classroom interactions are geared towards rewarding speed. But in science what matters is not who thinks fastest but who thinks deepest

My hubs and I discussing the #dumpsterfire that is shopping for women's jeans. When I mention no consistency between brands and having to try stuff on he responds "that's why men's jeans are in inches, we would rather go naked than do that!"

It's things like this that keep me going!! My Dad was chatting with my HS Chem teacher and relayed to me that my name comes up in class bc he rolled one of my pubs into a lesson. So I reached out to say hi and offer to meet with students! This was in his reply ❤️ #findyourwhy

So frustrated 😡 with @BMC_series #BMCCancer. Resubmitted a minor revision >6 MONTHS ago. Journal confirmed reviewers responded to our revision in OCT! but still no decision. No explanation! Withdrawing manuscript, but devastating for #postdoc authors looking for jobs.

I took my husbands last name bc 1) I have no deep love of my maiden name 2) I genuinely wanted to share his name. Google scholar and ORCID can associate 2 names with 1 author, to help w/ pub confusion
