Yesterday, accompanied by my colleague Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports H.E. Salim Mvurya, Kwale County Deputy Governor H.E. Chirema Kombo, Kinango MP Hon. Rai Samuel Gomzi, and other leaders, I inspected the progress of Makamini Dam Phase 1 in Makamini Sub-location, Kinango Sub-County, Kwale County. The project, started in November 2020, is now 67% complete. It includes a 12m-high zoned earth-fill dam with a 766m crest length, a 3,000m³/day water treatment plant, and raw water pumping works. Once finished, it will supply water to about 74,000 people in the sub-locations of Bofu, Mtaa, Makamini, Kinagoni, Mabesheni, Mnyenzeni, Mwamdudu, Matumbi, and Kibandaogo. I held public participation with beneficiaries to resolve delays, ensuring the team returns to site. The contractor has committed to finishing within the extended contract timelines.
