DUTERTE TO REMAIN IN DETENTION #BREAKING: The ICC Trial Chamber III has decided that former president Rodrigo Duterte should remain in detention. In an eight-page decision dated May 22, the trial judges said there is a real and substantial risk that Duterte “could abscond or obstruct justice either on his own or through his associates.” “The Chamber finds that the Accused’s physical condition and cognitive capacities referred to by the Defence do not constitute factors which outweigh the risks outlined above,” the ruling read. Nicholas Kaufman, Duterte’s former defense counsel, earlier said that the former president’s supposed deteriorating condition constitutes a change of circumstance that could warrant his release from detention. But the trial judges noted the previous examination conducted by court-appointed medical experts, “whose reports… do not contain any information that warrants modifying the Accused’s detention.” “The Chamber further observes that the Defence’s and the Registry’s Observations do not present information that constitute new facts or a change in circumstances in comparison to the information provided in the Panel’s Reports,” the ruling added. The trial judges also cited Duterte’s refusal to attend his confirmation hearings, saying his statement that he does not recognize the court’s jurisdiction “demonstrates at its lowest that the [he] will not comply with any orders that might be made in respect of a release from custody.” | @jvrmateo

Sinabi ng DENR-NCR ngayong Miyerkules na legal at may kaukulang permit ang pagputol ng mga puno sa Quirino Avenue sa Maynila para bigyang-daan ang konstruksyon ng Southern Access Link Expressway ng San Miguel Corp. "The activity is covered by a duly issued permit (Permit No. 2026-02-24-TCEBP-1609) granted to the Southern Access Link Expressway Corporation," ayon sa DENR-NCR sa kanilang pahayag ngayong Mayo 20. "To offset the trees that were cut, the project proponent is required to undertake large‑scale replacement planting within the next planting season as a condition of the permit," dagdag ng ahensya. THEY PAVED PARADISE AND PUT UP A SKYWAY I condemn the DENR for allowing the tree-cutting and earth-balling of HUNDREDS OF TREES along Quirino Avenue in Manila City. All of these trees cut. Just to pave the way for the construction of the “Southern Access Link Expressway” (SALEX) by San Miguel Corporation. The SALEX spans a measly 4 kilometers but four elevated lanes. A total of 617 trees will be affected. 617 trees — all of it for just 4 kilometers of an expressway which will never reduce traffic because all expressways have been proven to actually induce demand for automobiles according to empirical research and scientific studies. Hundreds of trees have ALREADY been cut but hundreds more will be cut in the next few days. I call on President Bongbong Marcos, the DENR, SMC, and the City of Manila to stop this madness.
