@aravind The crisis isn’t summer. It’s that we lost India’s heat wisdom: shade, courtyards, stepwells, water, cotton, seasonal food, slow afternoons. Old life was built around heat. Modern India built glass, concrete, traffic, sealed rooms and hotter nights. Our design got weaker.

インドの夏は、砂漠地帯などの一部の場所では50度近くまで上がることがあります。しかし、ほとんどの地域では平均気温が32〜40度程度です。また、内陸部や非沿岸地域では40度を超える日が頻繁に見られます。
これは記録が始まって以来、ずっと変わっていません。例えば、自動車も電化も普及していなかった1900年代初頭のイギリス領インドでも、多くの都市で40度超の夏が記録されています。
古代インドの文献には、灼熱の夏が描かれており、乾いた大地と、十分に準備した軍隊でさえ数日で命を落とすほどの極端な暑さが語られています。
日本は緯度が高いため、インドより夏の到来が遅いのは知っています。気温はよく35度くらいになります。 私はそんな暑い日に富士山に登ったことがありますが、高度が上がって気温が下がっても、熱中症になりかけたことがありました

I wish our Republic Day parades displayed the skill of the Ogohogoh festival in Bali. I'm so obsessed. Our religious festivals as are spectacular. But it's sad that our Republic Day floats are so mediocre.

1882 Kedarnath Dham photograph colorized

Apparently, this is one of the earliest known photographs of the sacred Kedarnath Dham, taken in 1882. Couldn’t take my eyes off it. No roads. No railheads. No helicopters. Just the abode of Lord Shiva, cradled by the Himalayas Back then, the yatra demanded time, endurance, & faith. The journey wasn’t incidental; it WAS the pilgrimage. Today, access is easier. And that’s a good thing because it opens the experience to many more. But perhaps something still needs preserving? The ability to slow down & savour the experience of traveling. Ashoka first marked this sacred site in the 3rd century BCE. The surviving brick temple is usually dated to the 5th–6th century CE.
Not hard stone, but brick and stucco. Its survival feels unreal.
