@SFMTA_Muni just saw a 38R blow through a red light leaving the transit center at Salesforce. The light was red before the bus even moved from the bay. Incredibly dangerous to pedestrians and other vehicles.
English

@SFMTA_Muni how did you screw up the 24 so badly tonight? I see 5 headed northbound from market and Castro and the next southbound hasn't even left Jackson and Pacific.

@thisistechtoday Anything to make it so Macs are again a good option for work that isn't graphics or video editing. Glossy is garbage if you're mostly doing text-oriented work and I couldn't believe Apple got rid of the matte display option before.
English

Example and comparison with the display on. It’s crazy how it strangely looks more saturated and contrasts as a whole even if a very specific area with no reflection is more contrast on the glossy version.
I think viewing it as a whole makes more practical sense than a clinical/technical level in terms of contrast and saturation.
Does any of this make sense? Lol. I think you have to see it in person if this video doesn’t make it obvious.

@sportss99 In a slide I'd expect downward vertical force and horizontal force (wrt to pole orientation), so it seems unlikely it's going to pull the pole out of the hole it rests in.
English

@sportss99 Ah, thanks, I can see the outcome you're thinking of. I pulled a poll clean out of its hole on ascent when I was too aggressive at grasping the cable in the next section. However, I was applying upward vertical force.

I'm not faulting the people here, but this is a reminder, if you are lucky enough to hike Half Dome, USE A CLIMBING HARNESS, CLIP IN. You will be safer, calmer, and enjoy it much more. sfgate.com/california-par…
English

@sportss99 I don't understand the geometry that would allow the carabiner clipped to cables threaded through the posts to allow the carabiner to slide past a post. Thanks to hikingguy.com for this great picture. hikingguy.com/wp-content/upl…
English

@sportss99 IIRC correctly there are two parallel cables on the trail running up the mountain. Every 5-10ft there is a metal poll approx 4 ft long attached to the cable. How would being clipped in fail to arrest your fall? Any slip would stop when the clip meets the bar. Do I misremember?
English

@cyngus Harnesses do nothing on the cables unless you are a professional who knows exactly how to secure it. For the vast majority of people, it will be more dangerous to clip in and out and it wouldnt prevent w fall anyway. Weather is the number 1 thing that makes Half Dome dangerous.

@rakyll I'm probably the 0.1x engineer, but I'm just going to keep trying until they revoke my access.

@PGE4Me 20 hours, no power, no estimates, where can I send the bill for replacing my fridge and freezer contents?
English

Very much agree with this assessment of how it was and how it is observed in social.clawhammer.net/blog/posts/202…
